We’re Home Owners!!

Posted by Rona Herman on

It’s not you. It’s us.

I love my son to the moon and back. He’s my one and only and the light of my life. But, at the age of 21 it was time for him to spread his wings and fly. Somehow those wings never quite caught air. So, we left the nest.

Last month the hubby and I closed on our very first house purchase and we couldn’t be more excited!! We literally signed the papers 2 days before my trip to Nevada so moving has been taking some time.

Today I’m headed over to the rental (now my son’s house) to do the final packing and staging for our furniture to be moved next weekend. Let me tell you, sitting on folding chairs at folding tables and using paper plates gets old pretty quickly. My aging hips have already begun their ‘no more folding chairs’ protest. 5 more days until I get my furniture!!

Concentration is Key

You know, when we first looked at this house, I saw this amazing studio area with spectacular views of the GIANT front yard and I thought, “What a magical place to work!” That was until we started to get settled.

My studio has mostly been moved in, minus furniture. I have a couple folding tables, my machines and most of my supplies already here (fabric, gadgets, etc.). Setting up the new shelf was quite the chore but I persevered! Being the DIYer that I am, I do love to get my hands dirty.

For the weight of all my UFO boxes and fabric storage I went with this Edsal Heavy Duty Shelf. Once the tables, shelf and machines were in place I was ready to get to work.

And, then I looked up.

‘Oh look, there’s a hummingbird! Oh look, there’s a beautiful Hawk soaring in the wind! Oh look, there’s that gorgeous butterfly again! OMG look at that moth!’

As it turns out, getting actual work done is fairly difficult when the view comes with so many wonderful distractions. Maybe it’s time to make some curtains.

Happy Independence Day!

As some of you may have noticed, this past Thursday was our Nation’s Independence Day. Usually we spend the evening locked away from all the noise outside and just try to get through the evening. As a combat veteran, the hubby and our Luna do not care for fireworks all that much.

However, this was the first year we were able to spend at our new house outside the city and it was wonderful!

We spent the evening with some friends sitting out on the new porch (in folding chairs) and watched our neighbors light off a few good fireworks. Then we called it a night. No giant fanfare. No big parties. Just a nice quiet evening with loved ones celebrating America and giving thanks for our freedoms.

Oh, and then this guy paid a visit.

All in All, I’m in Love

I have to say we did good on this house. The quiet of being in the country, the view from our porch and the wonderful neighbors have definitely started this journey off on the right foot. I can’t wait to see what the next 30 years has to offer!
