Kicking off 2021 with hope and a full heart!
You know the old saying, “Hindsight is 2020”? Well, I think that couldn’t be more apropos than right now. As we’ve officially crossed another New Years celebration off our calendars and turned the page to a brand new year, I can’t help but think of all the things we get to look forward to in 2021.
Let’s be honest, 2020 was a train wreck. With political upheaval, citizen unrest, and a little thing called a ‘pandemic’, our lives have been turned upside down and sideways. Plans and trips were cancelled. Quilt Shows have been shuttered. Even the very way in which we communicate has transformed into images on a computer screen.
However, even with all of the chaos and loneliness that’s transpired over the last 12 months, I can’t help but be thankful.
I’ve always believed that there would be no good without the bad. No joy without pain. One literally defines the other. Therefore, all of the sacrifices and sadness of 2020 can only make the joys coming in 2021 that much sweeter.
After months of Zoom Guild meetings, think of the overwhelming feeling of finally gathering together in person. Instead of squinting to view everyone’s quilts on a screen, we get to see and TOUCH them in person again!
Instead of making appointments to shop alone (six feet apart!), we get to touch and feel all the fabrics and go on Shop Hops with our Quilting buddies so we can have that all important second (and third) opinion on ‘should I get 1 or 2 yards?’ Oh heck, get 3!
We get to hug our family and friends. We get to laugh and cry together while holding hands and hugging one another. We get to pile in a van and travel to Quilt Shows again. To Quilt retreats again. Heck, wherever we want to go again.
Hindsight is definitely 2020. And 2020 is now our life’s hindsight. Life is what we make it. So, for 2021, I’m going to make the most of every second.
