Monday Motivation Discussion Topic

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend! In celebration, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite projects I made for my mom several years ago. This fabulous throw pillow!
The lighthouse/dolphins and bird applique pieces came as part of a set I purchased on one of my many visits to Washington State. There were made using a laser cutter and already had a little glue on the back which made them super easy to apply!
As for the overall design of the pillow, I decided to make a little scene out of the applique. First, I used some rock and ocean fabric left over from a previous custom quilt order. Then I went to town on the yellow fabrics.
The scraps I had did not quite fill all 3 off the light ray sections for the lighthouse. So, instead, I measured the 2 section piece and cut the yellow fabric scraps slightly smaller so there wouldn’t be an issue of them sticking over the edges.
Using double sided fusible interfacing, I glued the yellow fabrics in place. Then, I finished gluing down the lighthouse piece.
It was a super fun project and mom and I both loved the result! In fact, it still holds a place of honor in their living room. 🙂
What’s your favorite project you’ve gifted to a loved one?
