Quilter’s Community Friday Discussion
So, last week I actually wrote about my favorite class I’ve taken at a quilt show. But, my favorite ‘classes’ I’ve taken was actually at a Quilt Trade Show in Houston.
Every year, just before Fall Quilt Festival in Houston, TX, Quilts, Inc puts on a Fall Quilt Market for the quilting business industry. When I attended in 2019, it was my first trade show and boy was it overwhelming! So much to see and do and I quickly realized I was ill-prepared. So much so that I had to take an Uber to the local Target to buy another suitcase just to get everything home! I have a great tip now on how to avoid that issue in the future. 😀
Anywho, this particular year was the first (and sadly only) year they offered Threads of Success. It was an amazing program for new quilting businesses (like mine) to get in on the ground floor of the industry. We took classes from industry professionals and were walked around the sales floor meeting vendors and learning the ‘lay of the land’.
Some of our speakers and teachers included Elizabeth Townsend Gard from the podcast Just Wanna Quilt, editors from quilting magazines, Alex from the Quilt Show, Christa Watson, Ebony Love, Kimberly Einmo and even Tula Pink!! I was not chosen to be on her team which made me quite jealous, if I’m honest.
We learned so much in those 3 days it still overwhelms me today. But, I met some amazing people that I’m still friends with today and it truly was a chance of a life time. For all the up and comers in the industry, I hope they’re able to bring back the program. The potential is tremendous!!
