Your Shop for Free Spirit, Art Gallery and a Laugh a Minute!
High up in the mountain town of Boone, North Carolina lies a rather unique little quilt shop. It’s simply called, The Quilt Shop, Inc.

Seventeen years ago, after moving up to the mountains, Tod’s son approached her about the possibility of opening a quilt shop. At the time, there was no other quilt shop in that area so why not give it a shot? And boy are we glad she decided to say, ‘Yes’!
Even though neither of them had run a quilt shop before, they jumped in with both feet. Through many trials and tribulations, they got their footing and the shop took off. Tod recalls only having about 350 bolts when they first opened! That may seem like a lot, but now adays most shops carry thousands.

Over the years Tod and her cute little Quilt Shop, Inc has welcomed friends and fellow quilters from all over the globe including as far away as Europe. Even the fabulous Kaffe Fassett and his partner Brandon Mably has made the trek a time or two.

A couple years into the venture Tod’s son decided to move back down the mountain and pursue his career outside of the Quilt Shop, Inc. However, Tod had found her passion. All these years later she says the shop is her “sanity place”. Between the fabrics and all the new and creative people she gets to meet on a daily basis, she can’t imagine doing anything else.
Today, on any given day you will find Tod or her cohorts Pam and Sherri in the store ready to greet you with a smile and a ‘welcome to Boone’. Browse her incredible collection of fabrics, meander through all the beautiful decorations (including a fabulous painting made especially for her son by one of the Free Spirit Artists!)

Everywhere you look you can see how much this shop is loved by not only out of towners, but especially by the locals. For instance, those fabulous barn quilts hanging outside next to her sign and even the gorgeous ornament hanging over the fireplace were all made by some of her amazing customers. She even has a customer (who she now considers a friend) that still orders Tod’s fabrics even though she lives in Las Vegas!

Books, Patterns, Shirts, Mugs and More!

Hi Rona – Love traveling along with you. There’s so much of interest to see, besides quilt shops, in every big and little town. Quite a few years ago, I traveled to all the states (except Hawaii) with my sister in her RV. I’ll never forget those trips.
Waiting to hear about the next trip.
STAY SAFE!!
Thank you Mimi! You’re absolutely right. I love finding all the fun little ‘off the beaten path’ places. There almost always seems to be some in every city and town. I haven’t bought an RV for travel yet but I grew up going on trips with my Grandparents in their old Bounder and have so many fond memories from them as well! One of these days I’ll break down and get one of my own. 🙂
