Quilter’s Community Friday Discussion
Last week we talked about our favorite things about ‘good’ quilt patterns. So, this week, let’s talk about the things we don’t like.
Now, this is definitely NOT a place to bitch about specific people. We keep things civil and polite, yes? 😀 And focus on specific things in the patterns themselves that we don’t like.
Personally, one of my biggest pet peeves about quilt patterns either use a ton of pictures but not enough writing. And others have tons of writing but not enough pictures. I’ve learned through teaching that there are basically 2 types of students.
There are visual learners, like me. Show me how to do it and I’m good. We tend to look at the pictures first. Then read the words if the pictures don’t make sense.
Then, there are audio learners. They read and hear words to form the pictures in their head. These learners tend to read the words first, then look at the photos if the words don’t quite make sense.
It can be difficult to please everyone in one single pattern. So, I try to make sure my patterns have a good balance of both written instructions and photos.
What are some of the things in patterns you’ve found less than satisfactory?
