The Peach State

Welcome to Georgia!

Going back to it’s Colonial days, Georgia has a rich history of quilting. From European cloths such as Chintz with intricate all over designs to the English paper piecing using cotton grown here the South, one could say ‘Georgia knows it’s quilts’.

During the nineteenth century quilt styles began to change as more people began using repeating blocks and styles with more British and German influence. The new styles entered Georgia through coastal cities and inland routes into the backcountry, largely replacing older styles by about 1850.*

By the mid nineteenth century, textile mills had begun replacing the imported cloth with much more affordable cotton cloths. This allowed people of every means to spread their creative wings and teach the generations to come the art of quilt making.

Savannah History Museum – An amazing park musuem
Tubman Museum in Macon – African American History and Art
World of Coca Cola Museum in Atlanta
Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta – the largest Aquarium in the western hemisphere!
