A Little bit of everything for every quilter!
For several months I heard over and over, “You haven’t been to Miss D’s yet!? Oh you MUST GO!” But for some reason I didn’t listen. Then, I was presented with the opportunity to participate in Miss D’s first annual Spring into Summer quilt show. Y’all, they were right! Miss D’s is definitely a Bucket List worthy quilt shop. Here’s why.
Back in the days before Hollywood became ‘Hollywood’, a little town in Florida along the Saint Johns river was known as the ‘Gem City of the St Johns.’
Palatka was established as a trading post in 1821 and is today the county seat of Putnam County, Florida. The name comes from the Timucuan Indian word Pilotakata, meaning “crossing.”

Boasting several world class hotels, and being a rich resource for timber and citrus, Palatka attracted visitors from all around. It was also the main gateway to central Florida via the St Johns River.
Sadly, after Jacksonville built their larger ports and several natural disasters, the little town of Palatka fell by the wayside. However, over the years this ‘Gem City’ is starting to make a comeback, led in no small part by the amazing ladies at Miss D’s Quilt Shop.
Located in the heart of historic downtown Palatka, Miss D’s has everything a quilter could wish for! Besides their amazing fabric selection, they also carry all the gadgets, notions and goodies to stock your quilt studio for a lifetime. And that’s just the tip of the ice burg.
Welcome to Miss D’s!
Owned and operated by Miss Dee and her daughter Jamie, this quilt shop is much more than meets the eye. For instance, next door (the end of the building) is a HUGE warehouse size studio room that Miss Dee uses to house workshops of all sizes, group meetings, an annual High Tea and even 2 annual quilt shows! I’m seriously thinking about attending one of those High Teas. 😊
The building that houses the shop and adjacent studio was first built in 1918. Before they became the quilt shop, they were once a furniture store then record store and office supply! I can just picture what it must have been like during the days of the ‘flower child’ to hang out at that record store!

Hi!. I met you at Miss D’s earlier this month and bought several items of yours. One being the Traveling Quilter Planner and the Traveling Quilter books. Had I known that these were 1st Editions, I would have had you sign them. So, will you back in the Central Florida area anytime soon? Then, I will try to hook up with you and have you sign them. You have done a superb job on these books and the information just keeps on coming!!!! I will treasure the books and the information.
Good luck to you in your travels. Hope to meet up with you very very soon. Thanks so much,
Nina

Hello Nina! I remember meeting you at the show. Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the book!! Unfortunately, I won’t be back in Florida until at least this fall. Working on a BIG cross country trip this summer! 🙂 But I do hope we run into each other again at some point. I’d be more than happy to sign the books for you!
