Welcome to South Dakota!

During the summer of 2012 my little family made the cross country trek to start our new lives here on the East coast. The one place I made absolutely sure we visited was South Dakota.

Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial are 2 destinations that should be on everyone’s bucket list. The sheer size and detail in Mount Rushmore is unreal. And, with the ongoing work of Crazy Horse, you get to see first hand how both monuments were (and are being) made.

Another MUST stop for any quilter has to be Dignity: of Earth and Sky. The gorgeous quilt clad Native woman is one of the most famous statues is all of America. Not to mention the fabulous other history, natural phenomenon and art that can be found across the state, South Dakota is definitely a destination worth making.

• John Lopez Sculpture Gallery in Lemmon
• The Corn Palace in Mitchell
