Sure Orlando, Florida is a big draw. But the real action for quilters lies just outside the city at the Sewing Studio Fabric Superstore! Let me tell you why…

Not to long ago I had the opportunity to vend at Miss D’s Quilt shop in Florida. It was my first time at a Florida quilt show and we had a blast! At one point, a wonderful woman came up and introduced herself as none other than Mary-Jeanine from the Florida Quilt Network. As it turns out, she also teaches quilting at the Sewing Studio Fabric Superstore just outside Orlando, Florida and invited me to stop in to check out the store. All I heard was “superstore” and I was in!

Welcome to the Sewing Studio!

When you first pull up to the store it doesn’t quite look like a “superstore”. But, oh my, are looks deceiving. Once you enter the front door you’re transported inside a small warehouse size quilt shop that houses everything you could ever hope for and things you had no idea you needed.

Whether you’re a quilter, sew clothing, bag maker or a combination crafter, the Sewing Studio Fabric Superstore has you covered. From fashion fabrics, vinyl and cork to quilters cotton of all genres.

From aisles of notions, rows of buttons, and the entire cubby of nothing but ScanNCut, you’re sure to be inspired around every corner.

Now you know I couldn’t pass by the frog fabric collection without picking up at least one!

All About the Studio

About 40 years ago in a smaller location just around the corner a group of friends began getting together to sew. Appropriately it was called the Sewing Studio. Well, as the studio grew, they began selling fabric as well. Then more fabric. The sewing studio grew so much that they outgrew their space and moved into their current location and became the Sewing Studio Fabric Superstore!

Today the Sewing Studio is family owned and operated. You can even feel the family atmosphere from the employees!

After working for a number of years at the store, a husband and wife team purchased the shop in 2000. Today, they still run the business along with their children Eric and Kelsie. Eric mostly handles the online side of things. But you can see Kelsie on their website and social media as she does their live fabric showcases!

What does the Sewing Studio offer?

From such humble beginnings in that small location, today the Sewing Studio Fabric Superstore now has a full online video collection, live online sewing clubs and 2 in house classrooms where they offer workshops for beginners to advanced in all these specialties:

Quilting
Garment
Serger
Scan N Cut
Embroidery
And more!

And let’s not forget their incredible sewing machine section. The Sewing Studio sells Babylock, Brother and Juki machines. But they also offer service and repair on most brands. You can find everything from basic beginner machines to multi-needle embroidery, serger and craft machines. Don’t forget to ask about their sewing machine classes!

If you can’t make it in to the store, they also have most of their products in their online store.

Headed for the Villages in Florida? Be sure to check out their sister store: the Sewing Studio at Lady Lake! This location is a bit smaller and does not carry the fashion fabrics. However, it does have a great selection of quilting cotton, notions and sewing machines!

While You’re in Town

Every quilt shop I stop in to I like to ask about their favorite things to do in town. Well, most people around the world already associate Orlando, Florida with Disney World. So, I wanted to know what the folks at the Sewing Studio recommended that is NOT Disney related. Their answer?

Take a canoe trip down the Wekiwa Springs. Don’t worry. They pick up downstream. 😊
Visit the manatees in the winter time!
Stop by the Mennello Folk Art Museum and the Orland Museum of Art
