Welcome to Georgia!

Going back to it’s Colonial days, Georgia has a rich history of quilting. From European cloths such as Chintz with intricate all over designs to the English paper piecing using cotton grown here the South, one could say ‘Georgia knows it’s quilts’.

During the nineteenth century quilt styles began to change as more people began using repeating blocks and styles with more British and German influence. The new styles entered Georgia through coastal cities and inland routes into the backcountry, largely replacing older styles by about 1850.*

By the mid nineteenth century, textile mills had begun replacing the imported cloth with much more affordable cotton cloths. This allowed people of every means to spread their creative wings and teach the generations to come the art of quilt making.

    2. We have a small quilt, needlecraft and gift store in Clarkesville, GA. We sell quilt fabrics by Riley Blake, Liberty of London and other British designers. Not sure if we qualify for your list. We don’t have a website, but have Facebook and Instagram pages – @tudorrosega.

    5. You should also add String & Story on Main in Duluth (3150 Main Street, Suite 101, Duluth GA 30096). Holly Anne is a free-motion quilting guru with blogs, online and in-person classes. The shop carries the full line of Paintbrush Fabric colors as well as Moda, Ruby Star Society and Figo, Aurifil threads and notions.

      • Hi Mary! I believe the shop you are referencing is the same as the one we have listed in Martinez, GA! The mailing address pops up as Martinez rather than Augusta. Of course, we could be wrong and if this info does not sound right please let us know!
