The Keystone State
Welcome to Pennsylvania!
Pennsylvania is definitely one of my favorite states. As both a history buff and quilt enthusiast, this state has everything one could ever hope for!
For instance, did you know the battle of Gettysburg lasted 3 full days and encompassed the entire town and surrounding areas? It’s one of the only fully preserved battlefields in the entire United States. AND they have an AMAZING quilt shop that helps to provide fabric for quilts as well as 1800’s era reproductions!
After a time in Gettysburg, be sure to plan several days in and around Lancaster County and the town of Intercourse. There you’ll get to experience the true Amish way of life and even visit some of their farmhouse stores. Oh those quilts and handmade items alone are worth the trip! Did I mention their jams and jellies? My tummy is already rumbling.
So, when you’re planning a trip to ‘Quilt country’, Pennsylvania has everything you could want and need. Oh, and over 100 quilt shops to choose from!
SOME POINTS OF INTEREST NOT TO BE MISSED:
- Quilts at the State Museum in Harrisburg
- The town of Gettysburg! Be sure to make a stop at the Sachs Bridge.
- Andy Warhol Museum – for the lovers of ‘weird’ and ‘eccentric’
- The town of Hershey! – YES! The chocolate one!
- Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle in Doylestown
