Around the Block: A Quilt Shop Spotlight

I have always wanted to go to Cheyenne, WY. Ever since I first heard the song “Beaches of Cheyenne” by Garth Brooks, I have wanted to see what was so special about this town. Well, this summer I finally got my wish. And, what does any respectable traveling quilter do when venturing into a new town? Find a quilt shop, of course!

Located just off of the Interstate 25 in Cheyenne, Wyoming you’ll find a little quilt shop that has a whole lot of passion. Welcome to Around the Block Quilt Shop!

Owned and operated by Barb Boy, this shop has resided in the same location since if first opened in 2009! Originally the shop began with just half the size it is today. Since then, it has expanded to include the spot next door and includes a large classroom space, longarm machine and even a cute little nook for quilters and knitters alike to come, craft and enjoy each other’s company!

Owner Barb wasn’t always a quilter. In fact, she used to be a lawyer with the state of Wyoming and was the Council for the Secretary of State! But, in her heart she was always a crafter. She made dolls, clothes and stuffed animals. Then on a fateful trip to Portland, Maine Barb walked into a quilt store and fell in love with a collection of Alexander Henry Christmas fabric. Can you relate? I know I sure can! Ahem… Kaffe Fassett. 😊

That was pretty much all it took. Barb promptly joined a quilt class, signed up for the local Block of the Month and the rest is history. Flash forward to today and she not only runs the shop, but she also designs her own patterns and teaches quilting!
