A Quilt Shop Spotlight

When an old friend reaches out to say they’ll be on your coast and wants to hang out for a day, of course you find a quilt shop! While palling around Charleston, South Carolina we found ourselves at the fabulous Five Eighth Seams quilt shop. And boy was I surprised by what we found inside!
A few weeks ago, my roommate from the big Ireland trip, that lives on the opposite coast from me here in the US, called and said she’d be in Charleston, SC for a couple days. Of course, I’d drive down to see her! After all, Charleston is only about a 3 hour drive from my house. And as I AM the traveling quilter, 3 hours is just a short jaunt for my little car. 😊
After picking her up at the hotel we decided our first stop would have to be Five Eighth Quilt Shop. Located just a short 10 minutes away I knew the ladies inside would be able to help us decide how to fill the rest of our day.

Fun Fact: If you’re in a new town and don’t know where to eat or what to see, ask the staff at the local quilt shops! They’re always able to make suggestions and at least point you in the right direction.
As we drove into the parking lot, at first, we weren’t 100% sure the shop was open. There was an advertisement on one of the doors for ‘Space Available.” As it turns out, there’s space upstairs for rent. Five Eighth Seams quilt shop takes up the entire downstairs of the building!

Inside we found just about anything you could possibly ask for in a quilting / sewing shop. Throughout the middle of the floor was a fun variety of fashion fabrics. Along the outer walls were quilting fabrics, sewing machines and even some super fun quilting t-shirts!!

One of the staff was quick to point out the little back room. Inside was a fabulous collection of sale fabrics. Who doesn’t love a good fabric sale? Am I right!?

Then, on the opposite side of the store lay yet another room that housed notions, batting, patterns and even a few sewing tables for workshops. I’m telling you, this store has it all!

But, my favorite part of this store, and what MAY have me driving back just to visit… their trims wall!! I could have spent hours just looking through the fun colors of rick rack, tapes, ribbons and more!

That shop is one of the 1st places I hit when I am down that way. They have a great selection. Haven’t been down since last summer but the waves are calling.
