The Silver State
Welcome to Nevada!
When someone says “Nevada” most people automatically think of Las Vegas. But, after living in Sparks, a suburb of Reno, for 10 years and traveling most of the state, there is SO much more to Nevada than just the grand adventure that is Las Vegas.
Known for the vast amounts of silver that have been pulled from it’s mountains, Nevada is a unique beauty in the high desert. High on everyone’s bucket list should be Lake Tahoe. In the northern part of the state, Tahoe is a high mountain lake that is unlike any other lake on earth. Be in in Summer or Winter, the views and adventures around the lake are spectacular!
Heading southeast down highway 375 you’ll find yourself traveling down the “Extraterrestrial Highway“. Words cannot express the pure ET fun that awaits you on the drive. Everything from the scientific to Hollywood stories, they have it all.
Of course, if you are planning a trip to Las Vegas, be sure to add in some time to travel out to the Hoover Dam. The Dam marks the crossing from Nevada into Arizona but it is such a modern marvel! Not to mention the beauty of the surrounding desert. Plus, there are many tour groups visiting the damn that leave from Las Vegas. So, you don’t even have to drive!
No matter where your trip to the desert takes you, just know it’ll be the trip of a lifetime!

Just happened onto your site while looking for quilt shops in the Reno area. Recently moved here from California and looking to make quilting friends. I like your traveling idea and will use your ideas as I shop and learn about my new state. I am a single retired teacher, if you are ever in the Reno area I would love to meet you. Happy travels, shopping, and quilting,
Kathleen Hansen

That’s wonderful Kathleen! I’m so glad you’re able to use the site. Reno is a fabulous area for quilting. There are some great shops around both Reno and Sparks as well as down in Carson City. As it turns out, I have family in Reno and visit quite often. 🙂
